Our philosophy,
Nestled in the unique environment of Sweden’s Bjäre Peninsula, Thora Vingård embraces a biodiversity-focused approach to viticulture, cultivating an 11-hectare estate with approximately 53,000 vines. Carefully selected varieties such as Solaris, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, Gamay, and Chenin Blanc thrive here, chosen for their ability to flourish in northern conditions and capture the unique character of the region’s terroir.
Organic and biodynamic farming practices enhance grape quality while preserving Bjäre’s native flora and fauna. To enrich and protect the soil, natural amendments such as crushed mussel shells, by-products from local dairy farms, and diverse cover crops are incorporated, fostering vibrant soil vitality.
The constant sea breeze sweeping across the Bjäre Peninsula regulates temperature, reduces disease pressure, and strengthens vine health, contributing to the distinct character of the wines produced.
Respect for natural rhythms lies at the heart of vineyard management. Biodynamic preparations and the lunar cycle guide vineyard work, while natural treatments—such as nettle, horsetail, and sulfur—help prevent disease without resorting to industrial yeast, preserving the purity of both the environment and the wines. In certain vineyard blocks, massal selection is employed to enhance genetic diversity, strengthening vines against environmental challenges. Beyond the vineyard rows, hedgerows are restored, fruit trees are planted, and habitats are created to encourage local wildlife, reinforcing a deep commitment to environmental stewardship.
Mindful of ecological impact, minimal use of machinery is favored in favor of hand management and hand harvesting. This approach reduces emissions and allows meticulous attention to each vine, ensuring optimal growth and fruit quality.
